Adding your own Aerial Photographs |
Top Previous Next |
QuickMap products provide the functionality for you to add in your own aerial photograph backdrops, or any other raster image that you may want to view in conjunction with the other QuickMap data layers.
Ideally aerial photographs added into QuickMap must be orthorectified (a process by which displacements, caused by camera tilt and terrain relief, are removed from the photograph) and geo-referenced. Most Local Authorities provide photographs in this form. If the photographs are not orthorectified then once you have added them into QuickMap they will not line up perfectly with the rest of data provided with the product.
Adding in other raster backdrops (for example scanned NZTopo 1:50,000 topographic map sheets) may not require the process of orthorectification, however the scanning may have caused minor distortion of the images that you might want to account for later.
