The Connect GPS Unit form enables you to plug your GPS unit into QuickMap and plot your current position, save a breadcrumb trail as you move around, or download waypoints stored in your unit.. QuickMap supports NMEA serial data interface compatible with most GPS units such as the Garmin emap.

 

To connect your GPS unit to QuickMap follow the instructions provided with the GPS unit regarding connecting it to your PC. This is usually via a COM port.

 

Your GPS unit Serial Interface Protocol should be set to NMEA.

 

Select Tools>GPS>Connect from the menu bar. You will be presented with the following dialog box:

Specify the COM port into which you have plugged the GPS unit. Then press the Connect button. This will connect your GPS unit.  If it is  not connected correctly, the connection will time out.

 

Look at Options to select settings for your GPS.

You can then select the Live Tracking or Download Waypoint buttons

 

It is also possible to export points from QuickMap to your GPS
