Installing Data Updates

Top  Previous  Next

These install instructions apply to upgrading the QuickMap Enterprise software and data with an Update disk on any PC installed with QuickMap.

If you run the upgrade on a PC installed from a file server using the QuickMap setup Minimal install option, then this will upgrade the server. This means you only have to run upgrade once in order to upgrade all PCs running off the server. If you upgrade a PC that was originally installed as a stand-alone PC using the Typical install option, then this will upgrade the stand-alone PC. In both cases, the upgrade can only be run on a PC that has been previously installed using the QuickMap setup.exe, rather than via copying the files using Windows Explorer.

Do not uninstall QuickMap before applying the update. Note also that the upgrade can only be applied to a PC that is already installed with QuickMap. You cannot use the upgrade to perform an initial QuickMap Install.
If you are installing the Update disk onto Vista, Windows NT, 2000 or XP, then it is important you log on as administrator to ensure you have appropriate install privileges.
Place the Maintenance Update CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of the PC or Server.
Close all open programs, including any anti-virus software, so that only Windows is running.
If you are updating a server, then make sure no one is running QuickMap in the office from a remote PC.
Run the program setup.exe on the CD-ROM. This can be achieved by either double clicking on setup.exe using Windows explorer OR by clicking the Start button at the bottom of the screen, and then clicking run and typing: drive letter:\upgrade.exe and then OK. For example, if the upgrade disk is drive d, type d:\upgrade.exe.
If you have both Islands, you will need to repeat this install process for both upgrade disks.

NOTE: Only data is copied to the PC or server with this upgrade. No software will be installed. If you wish to upgrade the software, then answer yes when asked if you want to install the Automatic Software Upgrade Facility.

Automatic Software Upgrade Facility

Setup.exe provides you with the option of installing an automatic software upgrade facility. If you choose to install this facility, then setup.exe will copy an AutoUpgrade folder onto your computer, which is used by QuickMap to indicate a software upgrade is available. The next time you run QuickMap, Qmap.exe will detect that a software update is available, and ask you if you want to install it. If this upgrade is applied to a server, then all users running QuickMap off that server will receive the QuickMap software update next time they run QuickMap. This means that they must have sufficient administrator privileges to install the QuickMap upgrade next time they run QuickMap.

NOTES:

If you are running a very old version of the QuickMap software, then it will not recognise that a software update is available. You can still update the software on this PC manually running setup.exe from the AutoUpgrade folder on the CD-ROM, or where QuickMap has been installed (e.g. C:\Program Files\QMap\AutoUpgrade).
If you are manually copying the software between computers, then the new software is located in AutoUpgrade\Release
