To Select an individual feature, use the Info Tool 
and simply click on the feature. It will be highlighted on the map and its attributes are displayed in the Report Window. It is also possible to change the appearance of Selected Features by modifying GP 305 using the Symbology Editor.
To Deselect the feature, click on the Deselect button on the Toolbar
To select more than one feature in a layer, right-mouse click on that layer in the Layer Control window and make it the Active Layer.
By using the Info Tool and clicking on the object (eg parcel), it will select only parcel and by continuing to click on further parcels, multiple parcels will be selected.
Other ways to select Multiple features:
Right mouse click on the map and click on desired selection option.
