The map scale can be set to a specific value by selecting Set Scale off the View main menu, Ctrl+S or double clicking on the scale displayed in the bottom right hand corner of the map.
The scale is entered as a representative fraction. For example, typing 5000 would indicate that one meter on the screen or printout represents 5000 metres on the ground.
