Wondering what’s new in Quickmap Version 8? This change log is a list of all the new features in Quickmap Version 8 and its sub-versions.
Quickmap Version 8.4.9000 – 22/08/24
- The OCX has been updated to allow QTool to specify the number of decimal places to use when converting shapes
Quickmap Version 8.4.8997 – 20/08/24
- The size of the licence key prompt was increased to allow the Quickmap licence key to be used, as well as the Data Download Manager licence key
- Images pasted into Quickmap can now be resized and rotated
- Invalid coordinates are prevented from being entered into the Coordinate Search (Find -> Goto Coordinate) and the adding coordinates box (Add -> Coordinate)
Quickmap Version 8.4.86… (release details unknown)
- A bug was fixed whereby the Description of user created symbology is displayed as “unused”. The new version now correctly displays the Description that was specified by the user.
Quickmap Version 8.4.8622 – 30/11/22
Note: This was previously (and erroneously) marked as version 8.4.8676, which clearly isn’t the case since the current version at the time of writing this is 8.4.8622; hence this article has been updated to the most recent version. Therefore there may be additional updates that occurred after those listed below and the release date specified might not be correct for version 8.4.8622.
- Water Pipes, Stormwater Pipes and Wastewater Pipes layers are now available for download in Quickmap by selecting Downloads from the Quickmap tools menu. This download requires Quickmap version 8.4.8376 or better.
- This release includes a number of minor bug fixes, which includes fixing the owner search. In previous releases, the owner search sometimes failed due to an unhandled macron in the owner search.
- The Preview Image checkbox now defaults to true when you view Survey Plans by clicking the Plans button in Quickmap.
Quickmap Version 8.4.8266 – 01/09/22
- The option to open title data in your own browser was added, instead of using the built in Quickmap browser component. Details on how to open title preview in an internet browser here.
Quickmap Version 8.4.8219 – 04/07/22
- A missing Survey plan hyperlink was added in the vector info panel for Quickmap SurveyView South Island subscribers (Subscribers to North Island / NZ SurveyView will not be affected by this enhancement because you will already have the Survey Plan hyperlink).
- The Search form (Find button) was prevented from becoming too small. Quickmap allows the search form to be resized, but if the form is resized to a point where nothing can be displayed in the candidate list of searchable items, Quickmap will throw an error.
- A number of minor enhancements and bug fixes related to Multi-line labels and support log diagnostics.
Quickmap Version 8.4.8026 – 22/12/21
- Improved Support Logs: “Include diagnostic summary” now reports if data is out of date.
- The DXF Export feature has been re-coded and error reporting is now improved.
- Various bug fixes.
Quickmap Version 8.4.7978 – 08/11/21
- Shadow fonts are now supported for line features (such as roads). This makes labels easier to read, especially where they are overlaying colours on the map that are the same or similar to the colour of the font.
Quickmap Version 8.4.7955 – 21/10/21
- The address search (displayed when you click the Find button) now includes a Land District option that allows you to limit your address search to the chosen Land District. The option appears under the existing North Island and South Island radio buttons. Selecting a Land District means addresses outside your land district will not appear in your address search, saving you time by reducing irrelevant search results and reducing the chance of error.
- Property and Sale information available on homes.co.nz can now be viewed in Quickmap by selecting View->Show Location->In homes.co.nz from the Quickmap menu.
- Bearings displayed on the map when you tick the Bearings check box in the Quickmap layer control tool will now display the bearing based on the coordinate system set under the Tools->Options->Coordinate Display menu item in Quickmap.
This enhancement will mainly be of interest to Surveyors who want to view the bearing based on what is shown on the Survey Plan. - You can now display more than one Label on the map for any given feature, with each label displaying on the map on a separate line.
- Minor bug fixes:
- Quickmap Salesview no longer crashes when selecting sales off the map.
- Arrow keys on the keyboard now panning the map.
Quickmap Version 8.4.7859 – 8/07/21
- A bug was fixed whereby under certain conditions, clicking on a sale could cause Quickmap to exit.

- Repairing databases now upgrades databases if they are pre 2000 versions.
Quickmap Version 8.4.7829 – 08/06/21
- The position of the Detailed Property Report window is now remembered between Quickmap sessions
- The ability to add labels on all map points has been added, where previously users could only add labels to points held in mdb databases
- Support was added drawing lines with an outline. To draw a line with an outline, use first draw a line, then edit the symbology of the line.
- A minor bug was fixed that caused newly added features to initially draw in the wrong colour or appear hatched before the screen is refreshed, when placing features using the Add button.
- A minor bug has been fixed with the info tool that sometimes selects a parcel adjoining the parcel you actually clicked on
- A bug was fixed that prevented Quickmap from being opened with certain command line options
- A new option was added to upgrade old versions of the Quickmap.mdb database if required. The database is set to version 2000, which is compatible with all version of Access since 2000 through to the latest version.
Quickmap Version 8.4.7811 – 01/06/21
- Shadow fonts are now supported for point features. Shadow fonts allow you to draw an outline around label text on the map so that they can be more easily seen, for example when viewing aerials which sometimes includes colours that match the label colour making the label difficult to see.
- The position of the Detailed Property Report window is now remembered between Quickmap sessions
- The ability to add labels on all map points has been added, where previously users could only add labels to points held in mdb databases (now this functionality allows adding labels to points held in QIK files, too)
- A minor bug has been fixed with the info tool that sometimes selects a parcel adjoining the parcel you actually clicked on

Quickmap Version 8.4.7776 – 16/04/21
- A bug was fixed in the DXF export that caused appellation and parcel area to appear on one line separated by the ‘|’ character. The appellation and area now display on separate lines, and the ‘|’ character has been removed
- A bug was fixed in DXF export that caused spurious lines to appear when exporting Multi-Polygons
- The last Save to Layer is now remembered after Quickmap is closed and re-opened. This Save to Layer appears when you click the Add button and choose a layer you have created in the pull down list box next to the Save to Layer label.
Quickmap Version 8.4.7735 – 01/03/21
- The z-coordinate (Height) can now be exported in shape format from Quickmap.
- The Preview Image checkbox on the Survey Plan search window is now remembered between sessions.
- When ordering a plan through Quickmap’s document ordering system there is now a prompt for the plan type if it has not been entered. This avoids the confusing message Document may not be valid if no plan type has been entered.
- A menu item was added (Tools->Options->Survey Plan->Location) to point Quickmap at the folder location of locally installed survey plans.
- A bug was fixed that prevented importing of some shape files.
- A bug was fixed that caused Quickmap to crash sometimes a few seconds after opening.
- A bug was fixed that caused the error “Undefined function ‘nan’ in expression.”.

- A title preview tab was added which is displayed when you click the ‘Find’ button in Quickmap, to allow searching on all titles, even if they are cancelled.
- The address search has been improved so that Quickmap does a better job of finding properties that have a unit or flat number as part of the address.
Quickmap Version 8.3.7522 – 05/08/20
- A problem was fixed related to not Quickmap not being able to open databases on some computers. Symptoms include Quickmap sometimes crashing when searching by address.
- Offline registrations have been simplified.
- The filename was changed to include the plan number when saving survey plans.
- A problem was fixed that prevented points from exporting when exporting including the z coordinate (3D) in DXF format.
Quickmap Version 8.3.7491 – 07/07/20
- A bug was fixed which caused Survey Plans to be incorrectly reported as out-of-date.
- The tab order in the Survey Plan form was fixed.
- The Quickmap Detailed Property Report was changed to display a single View Plans button which displays the Survey Plan search form rather than one button per plan.
Note: The Survey Plan Search form is also displayed when you click the Plans button on the Quickmap toolbar. - A bug in Street Address Search has been fixed.
Quickmap Version 8.3.7445 – 02/06/20
- Fixed a bug that sometimes prevents saving new themes
- Changed the folder under Tools->Diagnose Repair->Change Data Directory to save the path as a UNC path to avoid potential problems with data downloads

- Viewing the map in Google Earth can now be accessed by pressing the Shift + F3 key

Quickmap Version 8.3.7307 – 06/01/20
- Free downloads are available by selecting downloads from the tools menu in Quickmap. This allows downloading additional layers to Quickmap that include:
- Building outlines – Current outlines of buildings captured from the latest aerial imagery. This layer is a must for most property professionals, and helps identify encroachment, as well as provide a sanity check on building floor area.
- Council Zones – Council district plan zones for Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Quickmap’s GIS functionality will allow you to search for properties based on zone, parcel size, ownership and other details. The zone layers will be particularly useful for prospecting purposes when you are searching for properties to develop or purchase within a given zone.
- Land Use – Land Use Classifications based on the NZ Land Resource Inventory which details information such as soil physical or chemical properties, erosion, arability and other land use classifications. These new Quickmap layers will be particularly useful for Rural Valuers when evaluating the potential farm productivity and therefore its potential value.
- SQL Server enhancement – Quickmap Version 8.3 supports adding layers connected to SQLServer, Oracle, PostgreSQL and many other data sources. Version 8.3 now allows searching on features connected to a SQL Server database.
- Bug fixes – Quickmap Version 8.3 includes a number of minor bug fixes.
Quickmap Version 8.2.7246 – 04/11/19
- Add ability to export selected parcel(s) in KML without an opaque background, for viewing in Google Earth.
- Add Save points as parcels checkbox to Choose Destination Layer The Choose Destination Layer form is displayed by right mouse clicking on the map, and selecting Copy Selected Objects to.. off the menu. This functionality will, for example, allow you to convert all your job numbers from points to parcels.
- Change the Info window report generated when a feature is selected from the Road Polygon layer or the Road layer so that information from both layers are combined into 1 report.
- Allow the option of creating new themes under the Theme menu, rather than Themes->My Theme menu. This option is in the form displayed when you select Save as new Theme off the Theme menu in Quickmap.
Quickmap v8.2.7220 – 09/10/19
- Add Suppress further errors option for QControlV2.OCX errors.
- Read <datadir>\Qconfig.cfg every minute to intercept errors caused by Windows automatically disconnecting network drives. More information about this problem is available from Microsoft.
- Check <datadir>\Qconfig.cfg exists before attempting to open any databases via the OCX.
- If insufficient data exists in <datadir> do not ghost out tools->Diagnose/Repair->Change Data Directory.
- When qmap.lck is created for a data update, change the Quickmap shutdown message to include the name of the person who is doing the update.
- Add ability to deleted more than 1 selected feature in editable layers (e.g. Edit Layer).
- If the Quickmap data directory does not exist (e.g. the network drive has been disconnected) display a meaningful error message.
- ❗ Note: This release is only available via the Software Update menu on the Quickmap Help menu within the Quickmap program.
Quickmap v8.2.7215 – 07/10/19
- Export of DXF format files now include an option to clip features to the map extents.
- A 64bit version of Quickmap was released to allow integration with Headway Systems’ product Valbiz.
- Automatically resize the File -> Export form to display all buttons if windows has been manually changed to use large fonts.
- Include Title and Display Logo as options that can be permanently set in the Print Setup form (File -> Print Setup) when the Set as Default button is clicked.
- Display the number of days remaining when Quickmap is registered.
- A bug was fixed which caused Quickmap to lock up if features are selected by rectangle from the map, and rectangle is rapidly made larger or smaller during the selection process.
Quickmap v8.2.7191 – 09/09/19
- If the Find form (CTRL/F) is resized, the new size is remembered between sessions.
- Results in the Find form no longer leaves a gap at the bottom of the list.
- Layers can be re-added to Quickmap using File->New Layer with the same name and a layer that used to exist in Quickmap, but was deleted.
- The Data Download Manager now has 2 buttons: Download Now and Install Now. Data update downloads scheduled to run at night time still run automatically, without the need to click any button.

Quickmap v8.2.7154 – 03/08/19
- Reports generated by selecting CTRL/R in Quickmap now display the x and y coordinates in currently selected display output coordinate system. The output coordinate system is set in Quickmap by selecting Tools->Options->Coordinate display off the menu.
- Bearings and Distances can now be included when exporting in DXF format by turning bearings and distances on in Quickmap before selecting Export off the File menu.
- Street names exported in DXF files automatically rotate to follow the road.
- Allow administrators to disable automatic Quickmap software updates – Contact Quickmap to find out how to do this.
