While not supported, it is possible to store data in a relational database such as SQL Server, Oracle or Access. QuickMap can read data directly from any relational database that can be connected to via ADO or ODBC. It is also possible to configure Quickmap to read from an Excel spreadsheet, or even a text file.
Doing this involves updating the mdb database stored in %USERPROFILE%\documents\Quickmap\Data\Quickmap.mdb or C:\Qmap\Data\Qmap.mdb (depending on your version of Quickmap). These databases must be updated with new connection strings to connect to the alternate data source. The tables “QDefaultTable”, “QDataSource” and “QLayers” may be used to reference the location of the databases.
If any field the QSource column of table QDatasource contains [DEFAULTDIR] in any part of the string, Quickmap will replace this with the string value stored in the registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Config\DataDir.
Not all data can be extracted from Quickmap, because some data we provide is in an encrypted format, such as QIK files.
Question: I have a database with data in it, can I attach it to Quickmap?
Answer: The format Quickmap uses for the location data is probably different. You’ll have to add a blank database to Quickmap, then import the data into that via Quickmap.
